I’d rather have climate-denying corporatists in power than climate-affirming progressives who deny the spiritual dimension of nature.
Yah, I know… this sounds controversial. But only if we don’t authentically and worthily undertake the thinking around what the FUCK we are doing here. Because if its just about climate worship, then we are doomed.
What do I mean by climate worship? I mean that you believe that climate is the issue of our epochal moment (the next ten years) and you think if we just count carbon and go electric and become climate resilient… then we’ll be saved.
If that is the case, then you have missed the entire point of this civilizational narrative.
Of course, we should all be pursuing every behavioral change that will draw us into closer alignment with the ecosystem (and I do, both with my own 1:1 footprint and substantial investment in, and board chairmanship of, a climate change startup which helps cities accelerate their shift to climate resiliency).
But we are being confronted with an existential threat that demands a transpersonal solution.
The point of climate is defeated by putting all of your focus on voting out Donald Trump or voting in your favorite climate-loving politician because it totally, and purposefully, distracts you from the actual work that we are being asked, by our planet, to undertake.
If that hasn’t completely put you into a wringer of programmed triggers, let’s get into it:
Ralph Emerson – the American poet, philosopher, and ecologist – expressed the radical concept that:
“the worshippers of nature are the destroyers of Nature.”
What, you may ask, is the difference between big ’N’ature and small ’n’ature. For Emerson, nature means the biosphere, and Nature (or Spirit) means the All – the physiosphere, the biosphere, and the noosphere and their domains.
Quoting Ken Wilber:
“[Emerson] maintains that nature immersion and nature worship prevent the realization of Nature, or the Spirit within and beyond, which transcends all. And so he arrives at the very true conclusion: nature worshippers are the destroyers of Nature, the destroyers of Spirit; they would, he says, never look within long enough to find the true beyond… they would never look within for Nature, they only stare without at nature, and thus, as he puts it, their minds are imbruted, they remain a selfish savage – geocentric, egocentric.”
Think of what Joaquin Phoenix said in his powerful Oscar acceptance speech:
“I think we’ve become very disconnected from the natural world and many of us, what we’re guilty of, is an egocentric worldview. The belief that we are the center of the universe.”
What better, and more pithy, a summation of Emerson’s take could be possible, especially at an event as superficial and meaningless – is there any better example of re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic, to get a better view of the distracting screen – as the Oscars?
But the point I want to make is that: in this moment we are being called on to make a larger cognitive and behavioral leap than to cool the atmosphere. People keep talking about the planet being endangered.
Fucking wake up, the planet is not endangered.
And that is because we have now become so estranged from the purpose of being here, on Earth, that the ecosystem is cancelling us. Removing us from the surface of this supernatural plane because we have become entranced with the external (and only fractional of the whole) reality to such an extent that we cannot bear to stop all our manic activity, silence the noise, to gaze inward and outward with the senses of an equanimous witness … and to gather the message that is coming from this world:
It is time to awaken to the cosmic consciousness.
Let me be very clear.
What is the purpose of being here? Again:
It is to awaken to, and become the expression of, cosmic consciousness.
Now some people think that means sending rovers to Mars. Others think its about establishing contact with extra-terrestrials. Still others think it is about doing heavy psychedelics and blasting out of this material plane.
All may be true.
But let’s state very simply what this consciousness is: it is the understanding that there are dimensions of experience beyond the third dimension which we perceive with our senses. And not only that, but these dimensions are where the generators and engines of the 3D reality are located. And that if we want to actually change our (eco-suicidal) paradigm, then we need to understand the parts of ourselves, and our world, which have direct access to these dimensions and begin to architect the new future from there.
The cosmic consciousness says: go within and beyond.
Not beyond and Beyond.
Within. And Beyond.
That is the next frontier for global change.
Did you ever see Interstellar? Ever see Inception? The transit to these dimensions and the seeding of new reality paradigms are the core messages of these films.
But even if you watch those, or read Alan Watts, or meditate daily, the reality is that most people will grasp the truth, but not viscerally feel and integrate it into their daily lives.
Because even though the most cosmic and salvational messaging is ringing imaginal phones all around us, we are incapable of grasping and receiving it through our wound-driven, mania-ridden, genetically-scarred body bags.
Because, it must be said:
We are desperately wounded, traumatized beings.
The experience of evolving on this planet for the entirely of our conscious history has been partly horrifying. Terrible things have happened. We have been hunted and eaten by lions. We have been drowned by angry, remorseless seas. Died from exposure. From hunger. From skin-eating disease.
We have watched our children be murdered. And raped. And we have raped and murdered the children of others.
And we carry the scars of those stories as genetically-programmed determiners of our everyday, modern lives.
But those stories are not the whole truth. Rather, they are that truth which the conscious ego and its master, the autonomic nervous system – which is delivered in each new human with factory settings locked on Sympathetic Response (stressed, ego-centered, fearful) – has determined as the impetus to create the climate-catastrophic society.
And so the trauma at the deepest part of us… which may be driving all of our most self-destructive impulses and patterns… is the belief that we do not belong in this world.
That we are strangers in a strange and dangerous land, instead of children who live in a supernatural garden.
Because that is the other part of the story, which is not horrifying but entirely magical and deeply optimistic, and which has been as much a part of our civilizational history as the earth-as-dangerous-frontier narrative that was first championed by the harbingers of the sky god religions that placed ‘heaven’ beyond the supernatural plane of the earth, and made access dependent on the requisite of suffering and the judgment of some alien, non-biologically inseminated creature who was placed here to die for us and then ascend with his body to ‘heaven’.
[Which story sounds more outrageous?]
I’m not going to go too deep into the impact that 2000 years of monotheistic programming – and its bastard child in deep ecological denialism, the Scientific Revolution – has had on the human consciousness. It barely needs to be said that the Earth-as-supernatural-plane narrative is threatening to the sky-god narrative at a foundational level. Which is why they killed the ‘pagans’ and waged unholy war on any deviant system which dared to present the case for a parallel or complementary cosmic world view.
Namely, that we belong, here. And we should undertake the practice of actively living as if we believe that.
Because, as Alan Watts wrote, “we are not born into this world, we are born out of it“.
And, more critically, that the Earth is a spiritual plane that has the potential not only to heal our deepest wounds, but also to materialize a threshold which, if we are courageous enough to cross, worthily (as the late poet John O’Donahue urged), will deliver us to a new territory, one where the world and our being are inextricably interconnected.
That everything that happens here is for us. For our evolutionary path. For our awakening to the true nature of reality and its cosmic dimension. Which happens through… the soul.
Now this word ‘soul’ gives a lot of people headaches. It repels them.
And I get it.
Because at its core, the soul speaks to the existence of a deeper part of ourselves – one that is beyond spacetime. A place that cannot be touched by the coarseness of this world and a facet of ourselves which has never been wounded.
Given that, it is an idea – forget an actual existential locus – that the ‘modern’ human has abandoned and denied because it does not mirror the (painful, alienating) experience of existence on the material plane.
An existence which has been full of scarring pain and heart-wrenching loss, at the hands of the world… of reality… of nature.
That is why the story of humankind over the past 2000 years – in which we labor under the hallucination that we are distinct from, and threatened by, the universe. So that that we can only rely on our selves to survive and master the material plane. Because there is no salvational force, neither within, nor without, our human body to transport us beyond the suffering of this dangerous realm.
Except, in our modern construct, the short-lived satisfactions of the market, which as we know, is the primary driver for climate change.
Which brings us back to the beginning.
This idea that all we need to do is count carbon and become climate resilient and we’ll be saved.
Which yah, we do… but that is not the point. It’s a half measure and a cop out. That’s why I’d rather have climate denying corporatists running the planet than a climate affirming progressive who denies (or is unable to affirm) the spiritual dimension of nature. Which is the only way we are going to move into the next phase of our evolution.
The worshippers of nature are the destroyers of Nature.
Do you get that now? How dangerous it is if we keep playing this game of inches that ultimately only distracts us from the true transmutational power of our cosmic consciousness and its imaginal realm?
But for most people, they can only imagine “working with what they got”.
Corralled and herded into the stockade of lesser evils by a class of political agents who have zero comprehension of or belief in the earth as anything other than a place to do our business. One in which we have arrived at the best system – even though it is a system that has failed to produce, or even attempt to produce, the societal outcome it was designed to: that being some level of representation of the will and benefit of the broader public – with the net outcome being that the most creative minds and (r)evolutionary warriors of our society, instead of focusing their energy on creating a new system, continue to ‘do the best with what we are given’.
Do we actually need a full system collapse before people of creative minds and warrior courage start actually envisioning something beyond … this?
For a long time I fought that notion, mostly because its not the white people in LA or NYC or London or Berlin who are going to get fucked. Its the non-white, non-mobile, agrarian and urban-serf classes who will be de-territorialized and cast adrift .
But more and more… part of me is like… bring it the fuck on so my people, the people who can actually alter the course of our human narrative, wake up out of their somnambulistic trances and change the way they live their lives and who and what they work for… and accelerate the (r)evolution.
Because life either happens to you, or you happen to it.
And in this category of evolutionary change, we definitely do not want that shit to happen to us.
true poets, and (r)evolutionaries, are brand strategists for the civilization. they use words to engineer cognitive and behavioral shifts that have the potential to redefine the moment… and the future… for the betterment of all.
because their target market is… the species.
listening to this interview with the late Irish poet and mystic John O’Donahue, i was scrambling to catch and note the subtle, humble, nuanced bombs he was dropping about the ‘pedagogy of interiority’.
at one point he talks about the word ‘threshold’, which comes from the word thrashen – to separate the grain from the husk. For him, thresholds are lines that separate ‘two territories of spirit’. and, he continues, ‘if we cross worthily, what we do is heal the patterns of repetition that were in us, that caught us somewhere. And in our crossing… we cross onto new ground. Where we just don’t repeat what we’ve been through in the last place we were.’
this sentiment expresses so succinctly what i have been trying to say about the current moment. we are at a threshold, and a new territory in terms of a paradigm that encircles the human understanding of the nature of reality.
let me take it a step further with an even more pithy quote:
biography is not identity
what does this mean?
it means that there is a place within us which cannot be touched by time or space or the hurtful forces of tragedy and history.
it means there is a place within us where we have never been wounded.
take that to the next level: the cumulative genetic and epigenetic narratives of our ancestral and present-day existences do not actually define who we are, even though this is precisely what the current (materialist) paradigm dictates.
for anyone who actually and actively pursues the birth of a new paradigm in which every human, no matter where they are born or to what culture or gender gets an equal and fair shot at determining their destiny…
this is the revolution.
this is the quantum paradigm in which the unmaterialized potential which lies at the substratum of wave (and not particle) IS the primary realm and determiner of existence and ‘reality’ in 3D. or, as Joe Dispenza writes, energy is the epiphenomenon of matter.
this is the equivalent of discovering a new territory, one with limitless resources and potential for self-actualization.
if a single mom with three kids who works two jobs and barely gets by can shift her dependence from the hope that the magical invisible hand of the capitalist economy will give her family majesty and power over their destinies… to one of understanding the latent and limitless power of reality-creation that lies within an ancient spiritual technology located within each human being, then we are onto something that is actually dangerous to those who rule through the illusion of scarcity.
again, this is the threshold we crossing now.
into a new paradigm.
because, again, in the quantum view: there is no such thing as scarcity.
it is a fiction of the materialist paradigm that drives the impulses of competition and gangsterism and anarchy that have characterized transitions of history. and which so many fear we are heading into now. unless we break free from the lie that tells us everything (determinist) is happening on the material plane.
because it is not.
that is what science teaches us.
and what spirituality teaches us.
which is beautiful.
as the physicist B. Alan Wallace writes in Hidden Dimensions:
Historically, religions have commonly posited their scriptures and other divine sources as their background theory, often assuming this to be an absolute frame of reference for determining all kinds of truths. But those claims have generally been eroded by other means of knowledge, especially science. Nowadays, many people have adopted science as the sole means of comprehending the natural world, but the evolution of science itself has empirically undermined any such idolization.
the early quantum physicists knew that they were on to something profoundly… mystical. this paradigm shift has been a century in the making (as humans catch up to the quantum paradigm shift, which is more potentially transformational than the Copernican, and on par with the Axial) and why you are seeing such power moves by the agents of materialism to capture every fragment of the human attention span (and its tethered consciousness) in the spectacular web of the illusion.
we need to frame what it is we are ACTUALLY doing, …and if its not re-patterning and re-engineering the paradigm around universal access to equal self-actualization, then its just the perpetuation of the old system and the failure to cross the threshold which we have organically reached as a tipping point for the next evolutionary thrust of human civilization.
i would argue that TRUE POWER resides in gaining access to the generators of reality, which reside and occur at the sub-stratum plane of pre-particle waveforms. this is essentially where those who practice the occult have for millennia placed their focus (Plato referred to 3D reality as a shadow of primary ‘reality’ – the Realm of Forms – which transcend spacetime).
i leave you with a quote i used to write on the inside cover of all my journals when i was in college. its from Nietzsche (written in 1882):
“We, the new, the name less, the hard to understand, we firstlings of a yet untried future we require for a new end also a new means, namely, a new healthiness, stronger, sharper, tougher, bolder and merrier than any healthiness hitherto. He whose soul longs to experience the whole range of hitherto recognised values and desirabilities, and to circumnavigate all the coasts of this ideal “Mediterranean Sea” who, from the adventures of his most personal experience, wants to know how it feels to be a conqueror and discoverer of the ideal as likewise how it is with the artist, the saint, the legislator, the sage, the scholar, the devotee, the prophet, and the godly Nonconformist of the old style…
…And now, after having been long on the way in this fashion, we Argonauts of the ideal, who are more courageous perhaps than prudent, and often enough shipwrecked and brought to grief, nevertheless, as said above, healthier than people would like to admit, dangerously healthy, always healthy again, it would seem, as if in recompense for it all, that we have a still undiscovered country before us, the boundaries of which no one has yet seen, a beyond to all countries and corners of the ideal known hitherto, a world so over-rich in the beautiful, the strange, the questionable, the frightful, and the divine, that our curiosity as well as our thirst for possession thereof, have got out of hand alas! That nothing will now any longer satisfy us!”
The ‘left’ and the ‘right’ are being stalked and herded by masterful forces.
Frightened into choosing between a lesser-evil (false) dichotomy by those who govern on behalf of the hidden elite.
Alan Watts saw the answer to this societal manipulation – as he did for so many of our modern socio-political entrapments – rooted in the most ancient of iconographies.
It is by far one of Watts’ most subversive. Just take in the first sentence.
Obviously no society can tolerate within its own borders the existence of a way of liberation, a way of seeing through its institutions without feeling that such a way constitutes a threat to law and order.
I mean really take it in.
And then read the whole brilliant thing:
Obviously no society can tolerate within its own borders the existence of a way of liberation, a way of seeing through its institutions without feeling that such a way constitutes a threat to law and order.
Anybody who sees through the institutions of society and sees them for, as it were: created fictions in the same way as a novel or a work of art is a creative fiction.
Anybody who sees that, of course, could be regarded by the society is a potential menace.
In other words, you may put it in another way: one of the basic things which all social rules of convention conceal is what I would call the fundamental fellowship between ‘yes’ and ‘no’. As in the Chinese symbolism of the positive and the negative, the yang and the yin.
You know, you’ve seen that symbol of them together like two interlocked fishes.
Well, the great game – I mean the whole pretense of most societies – is that these two fishes are involved in a battle. As the ‘up’ fish and the ‘down’ fish, the ‘good’ fish and the ‘bad’ fish.
And they’re out for killing.
And the white fish, one of these days, is going to slay the black fish.
But when you see into it clearly, you realize that the white fish and the black fish go together. They’re twins, they’re really not fighting each other, they’re dancing with each other.
That, you see though, is a difficult thing to realize in a set of rules in which ‘yes’ and ‘no’ are the basic and formally opposed terms. When it is explicit in a set of rules that ‘yes’ and ‘no’, ‘positive’ and ‘negative’, are the fundamental principles, it is implicit but not explicit that there is this fundamental bondage or fellowship between the two.
But the theory is, you see, that if people find that out, they won’t play the game anymore.
I mean supposing a certain social group finds out that its enemy group which is supposed to fight is really symbiotic to them. That is to say the enemy group fosters the survival of the group by pruning its population.
Would never do to admit that.
Would never never do to admit – just as George Orwell pointed out in his fantasy of the future 1984 – that a dictatorial government has to have an enemy. And if there isn’t one, it has to invent one. And by this means …by having something to fight, you see… having something to compete against… the energy of society, to go on doing its job…
Is stirred up.
And what the Buddha or bodhisattva type of person fundamentally is, is one who has seen through that, who doesn’t have to be stirred up by hatred and fear and competition to go on with the game of life.
Does that resonate?
If it does, would it be possible to stave off the shrieking voices all around demanding you to consider the stakes and the necessity to choose and do what’s right, to consider:
What voting and candidates and parties actually mean
When they are facilitated by the order itself.
And, maybe, even further:
If you authentically want to be part of changing this country and this world in a way that fundamentally transforms the machinations of social control and creates the opportunity to birth something entirely new and evolutionary…
Then, to question in a non-reactionary way: whether your place belongs within or without that superstructure.
And if without, then what that would actually look like.
And who you would be in that new paradigm.
I come to you
As the memory of the person
I once was
As one who understands
That he has been alive
Only in the biological sense
Of the Word.
For I have lived for a long time
In the perception of a reality
And its material experience
That I now understand
To be false
For me, it took on the structure
Of a Game.
A beautiful, meticulously designed Game which
Promised its players the opportunity to unlock
Their limitless potential.
And so I learned its rules
And applied them to every aspect of my life
I dutifully and studiously learned its rules
Accepted its sacrifices
And climbed the path toward its most lofty rewards
At any point, if you had asked me
How are you doing…
In the Game?
I would have told you
I was winning.
But in truth
On a scale of 1-10
In terms of actual success
I was only a 3
Acting like I was a 9.
And in that cycle
Of self-told fantasies
Which I created out of
A need to justify the Game
I slowly moved in a ritual drama
That only brought me
Into incrementally more competitive
And isolated stances.
Ultimately separating me from all the players
For whom I knew my Spirit had only
The most innate and unconditional Love
But against whom my victories increasingly
Could only be secured by their material and social
And spiritual deficits
And so it was
That one dark and infinite night
I woke up
In a dream
The kind of dream you have
In which you, for the first time,
Are given the sensation of what it is
To actually be awake
For it was at that moment
That I was shown the blinding
That I was not playing the Game
But the Game was playing me
In that moment, I was shown my self
Not as the independent, powerful
I had come to believe my self to be
Instead I woke up to the vision of my self
As a highly functional, flawlessly programmed
In an giant unseen apparatus whose sole function was
To justify and sustain the existence of the Game
And I knew then that I had a choice
Either transcend and escape the material contract
I had made with the Game
Or perish as its servant
I chose the first option.
If you are reading this
And if you feel that even the slightest
Part of my story resonates with your experience
I want to tell you that there is a place
There is a community
There is a path
That is illuminated by the light
of our collective cosmic destiny
That can lift you out of the bondage
Of the old and tired and corrupt Game
And unlock from within you the magical truth
That to live the life that you had always dreamed
Or perhaps never allowed yourself to dream
You only need to ask.
Ask to remember that simple truth
Which you have forgotten
But which has not forgotten you.
That truth which you agreed to forget
As a condition to enter the arena
Of this existence
And the Game
Which has the solitary goal
Of making you believe that it
Is the bequeather of all power
The source of all life
And the God
Of all things
If you are done with that Game
And if you have that deep
As I did
That we have been living in
Some kind of magical lie
One that exists only for the purpose
Of pressing us to wake out of
Our collective trance
Then this is an invitation to come
And join those who are making that
Brave and sacrificial leap
Into the fabric of the external realm
Which has always been, and will always be
Long before our human family fell
Into this beautiful sleep
We invite you
For one last time
Not as a parade of individual
Erected to the glory of the Game
But as newly born, freshly awakened
Fully embodied collective who understand
They are on this Earth for a purpose
That this is the moment your
Whole life was designed
And created for.
For many of us, the world we have known for our lifetimes is changing rapidly and shifting into something very daunting. The new paradigm seems to be dominated by conflict, chaos, and catastrophe. Especially if the news and social media are the mediums through which they are getting their information.
This kind of nihilism is the symptom of a civilization that does not have a clear vision of its future. Or a clear understanding of its past. We are in very critical need for a new story that can inform the beliefs that form the basis of our understanding of reality and the behaviors that follow from them.
For the past couple of years I have been fortunate to work in a team focused singularly on the challenge of climate change and in helping to frame a new narrative for that massive threat to our societies.
It is the most profound irony that many devoted environmentalists vehemently reject the idea that the Earth is alive and conscious and ensouled – aka Gaia theory – because it’s not provable and thus not scientific. Which in their eyes threatens their position in the face of the current conflict against climate deniers who are waging a ‘war against science’.
I get it.
But the idea that people who are authentically and earnestly fighting for the Earth would deny her of a status that could actually, finally activate the hundreds of millions of others who are otherwise asleep and entranced in the face of her destruction is… one of the great paradoxes of our time.
Not for much longer.
We live in an age where empirical ‘science’ no longer works. Quantum physicists now openly admit the tool of their enquiry is woefully insufficient for determining the nature of reality. And the reductionists fall over themselves to deny that their school is one of the single most culpable for the ethos of non-holism that made the earth into a plane ripe for unyielding ecological exploitation and devastation.
But as the historical philosopher Arnold Toynbee taught us, the growth and decline of civilizations is a spiritual process.
Humankind, he wrote, “achieves civilization, not as a result of superior biological endowment or geographical environment, but as a response to a challenge in a situation of special difficulty which rouses [them] to make a hitherto unprecedented effort.”
That is why climate change, as my dearest Gayatri Roshan teaches, is not problem. It is the solution. It is the challenge Toynbee offered us in his prophetic writings.
This is why I know that despite the very frightening and paralyzing warnings we have now been given (that our civilization has little over a decade to radically transform our way of living on the Earth or my children will not have a livable planet to pass in to theirs), I am feeling very confident about our chances.
We are are the dawning of a new Age. One which will be marked by the rediscovery of a kind of ‘science’ which is sometimes called ‘mystical’.
Mysticism requires the belief in truth without proof.
This is the hardest thing for many humans to accept. But also the most transformative because in this scientific enquiry, ‘evidence’ can only be found in the intuition and sentiment that arises from the human heart and its companion, the immortal soul.
As this year closes I see, hear, taste, smell, and, most importantly, feel the grip of ‘science’ loosening and the rise of intuition and soul-driven connection to ‘truth’ arising in the yearning of our people to birth a new vision of ‘reality’.
Yes the last few centuries have given us much in the way of ‘progress’.
2+2 indeed is 4.
And, as my friend Christopher Hitchens, the penultimate materialist, was fond of telling me, “there was time when people used to die of their teeth.” Indeed, we have come a long way. But we will have to return to our most primal roots to remember what we have forgotten.
That 1+1 is only ONE.
And in this truth we find the most potent of all visions for the future of our civilization.
Bless you all my sisters and brothers.
“…the value of fiat money is derived from the relationship between supply and demand rather than the value of the material from which the money is made.”
i. replace “the material from which the money is made” with “the Earth” and we have the raison d’etre for the creation of a parallel, non-fiat currency that is earth-centered and climate-driven
ii. the opportunity for the introduction of a non-fiat currency is not idealistic, it is the precise econo-systemic shift we need to make right now if we’re going to propel a global regeneration culture
iii. we have created the most productive economic engine in the history of the world that is operated on a form of currency called fiat
iv. fiat pegged to GDP and GDP is pegged to extraction and heat generation. fiat is now driving our collapse toward extinction.
v. its time.
fiat must end.
Like so many of my friends, I have spent a lot of time focused on the world outside of my self and how to use my resources and, frankly, white male privilege, to contribute.
This started in the form of directing and writing around social justice issues that led me to eventually direct several feature films and write some books. The apex of that ‘life’ was a deep dive into the binary world of fundamentalism (through a journey into the millennial religious HolyWar with two hardcore believers), with a pretty mind-blowing outcome, which really made me question the dualist paradigm manifested through the political / religious / financial systems (left/right, right/wrong etc) that I had become so good at self- (and, other-) identifying with.
I left film and writing to start a tech company based on signaling complex data in a multi-dimensional, dynamic way that could create a new kind of identity. This (somewhat ahead-of-the-curve) tech is currently being applied to medical data and possibly a new platform our team has been developing around climate change.
But to be perfectly honest, I am long past believing these kinds of citizen-engagement initiatives are going to successfully and integrally solve the challenges we face. My core passion, and the thing that my life consistently seems to bring me back to, are the revelations contained in the mystical traditions.
Meaning the exposition of hidden truths about our world in the context which Plato put it so well over 2000 years ago:
“In consequence of this divine initiation we became spectators of single and blessed visions, resident in a pure light; and were ourselves made immaculate and liberated from this surrounding garment which we call the body and to which we are now bound like an oyster to its shell.”
I believe we are on the cusp of a Copernican moment, in which humans discover that the ‘reality’ we inhabit is nothing like we understand it to be. That we are atomic beings, not biological ones… and the 3D realm we inhabit is not a deterministic fixed space, but in fact one that is generative and responsive to us, based on our level of awareness of this truth.
This belief has very real applications and implications. It’s not philosophy to me, and I am actively working on new creations that might help others to pierce the veil in the way that I have. But it makes it very hard to engage with my great and beloved cadre of friends who really believe that we just need to get more people to vote in order to create the world we want to live in.
For me, this is absurd.
What we need is a vibrational shift at the genetic level of the species. Which is practical and achievable under the conditions of a global counter-cultural movement that inducts people into rituals that help them unearth the deep wound caused by the experience of being spiritual entities trapped in materialist shells on a 3D Earth.
I am sure this sounds (at best) escapist and (at worst) cray to most of you, but in my defense, I’ll just say that it’s coming from a guy who’s traveled or worked in over 80 countries, put most of my life and money into very concrete activistic pursuits… and is deeply invested (as a father of two young children)… in us actually evolving out of this situation instead of simply delaying it long enough to make our selves feel better about how much we did.
Let’s be very clear: this is a big, counter-intuitive shift that needs to happen. Especially for people who have spent their lives dedicated to changing their reality through the systems created from its misconception.
Again, think birth of the Axial Age or the Copernican revolution. It’s not about fucking voting. It’s about pausing for a moment, pulling our heads out of the spectacular distraction of the news cycle and actually having the self-discipline and intellectual and spiritual rigor to question the foundations that materialize our conception of reality.
Otherwise known as the paradigm. (Yes, they shift.)
To that end, I’ll leave you with a quote I sent to friends and posted on social media that really sums up where I am at in terms of getting to fundamental solutions and evolutionary movements.
It comes from Manly P. Hall, one of the greatest civilizational resources in the field of esoteric and mystical traditions, and says everything any one needs to understand about the true nature of SECURITY and how we are actually going to achieve it as an intra-causal and inter-connected species.
“If we dwell forever in the sphere of effects, content to endure without question the vicissitudes of outrageous fortune, we must suffer the consequences inevitable to this state… Nature has bestowed upon us the means by which we can rescue our lives from the delusion of materialism. If we use these means according to the laws governing them, we fulfill the purpose of our living.
There are eternal and unchangeable principles in the world of causes. We must learn to know them, love them, and obey them, for herein lies our hope of security.”
I received a few questions and challenges posed to my Mystical Trump post. One of them gives me the chance to answer them all. It comes from AM:
“Interesting. I’m trying to think about it in terms of the relationship between the market and society in Polanyi’s Great Transformation. The idea that the two realms aren’t really separate, but rather society’s response to crisis in the market makes the continuation of capitalist markets possible. So seeing them in a dialectical relationship.
In this context I guess my question would be a somewhat basic one: in what ways does or doesn’t a move towards inward non-opposition perpetuate the dialectical relationship between seemingly oppositional forces?”
This is a great question, and it is where it gets a little complicated. The core plank of my position lies in this graf:
what i would suggest however, in the context of (r)evolutionary mysticism is that we not feed into that binary impulse that drives those groups who are currently engineering reality for the great part of the world. but rather, that we consider that by opposing things with the intent of destroying them, we edify them in the process.
The simple answer to your question lies in the nature of dialectics. In its purest form, a dialectic is a discourse between differing points of view on a subject. In the case of political or social conflict, it is the semantic expression of a chaotic sine wave.
So in the pure mathematical/physics context, if we occupy the polar viewpoint to our ‘opposition,’ and we are engaged in a dialectical process, then we are an implicit participant and driver of the opponent’s momentum and identity. It follows then that if we simply abandon our positions and thus remove the binary curvature in the wave’s force/resistance, it will have the effect of collapsing the entire structure.
But that is a fallacy.
One has only to look at history to know that there have been times when hatred and anti-humanism have marshaled enough force to very nearly approach world domination if not for the willful opposition of an opposing force.
In some cases agents of change have been able to destroy all opposition so that they simply become the structure of reality themselves. They become the new paradigm, and the dialectic continues, within the parameters established by the new order.
This is very much what has happened to the world post-Industrial Revolution, and why Polanyi is able to make him point, that in the capitalist paradigm, even opposition feeds the capitalist enterprise.
I am proposing something very different here. Going inward is not simply about becoming silent and meditating oneself into an innocuous trance. No. Not at all.
When I write about (r)evolutionary mysticism, I am invoking an ancient practice that is more akin to alchemy than non-violent opposition. This is the stuff of the mystery schools who were forced underground for millennia because of the (real and perceived) threat they posed to those who ruled humanity on the material plane. You can find the substance of this deeply subversive thinking through history from Plato, Hermes, Meister Eckhart, and then the modern mystics like Mabel Collins and Helena Blavatsky.
In this line of (r)evolutionary thinking, the reality we are experiencing is not primary. It is a recipient realm, which receives the projection – much limited and distorted by virtue of the time/space confinements of 3D – of a higher, more true source. And it is from this realm that we can connect our earthly consciousness to attain incredibly powerful transmutational power. Power which will not simply neutralize the forces of hatred and fear which we ‘oppose’, but transform them through the vibrational frequency that we attain in our alignment with, and tuning to, the primary, non-material realm.
If we simply ‘oppose’ Trump from within the confines of the same paradigm, we are still locked in the same structure and what you get is another crest in the wave without ever transmuting the generators that created him. (Hence, the 50 year dialectic of Carter-Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama-Trump).
So this is what I am talking about when I say, in my Mystical Trump piece, that we should:
vanish into the interior realm, where true generative power resides.
But of course, knowing how to connect with and channel a new paradigmatic vibration is not a simple thing. And it is not something that is taught. But, I will tell you, it is something we know innately to do. Just as much as we know that sitting near a 1000 year old redwood nourishes us more than hugging a telephone pole. But we must be willing to let go of the primacy of this plane, and all its amazing spectacles, in order to bring in the new/ancient thing that is what we are all so hungry for.
Let’s bring it back to Trump.
This is a phenomena that is being generated by people who are responding to a perceived threat. The campaign was driven by a system of phobias that essentially create an ‘us vs them’ dynamic which was enough to position Trump as a savior for the millions of Americans who feel deep-seated frustration and anger at their diminished economic and social agency.
The reality is that what these people are experiencing is real. And what Steve Bannon and the Trump team did was take that anger and channel it into a campaign that reflected it back in order to create a force of energy that would propel them to a electoral victory.
(r)evolutionary mysticism is not concerned with opposing these people. It is not concerned with opposing Trump or Steve Bannon or whatever other interchangeable body suit the ruling paradigm throws up to sustain its steady march toward oblivion.
It is concerned with a solution that is appealing to the deepest facets of all humanity. It is about ending the dialectic we are currently trapped in and establishing an entirely new playing field. Call it paradigm shift, call it a spiritual awakening, call it the solution to quantum physics’ search for a unifying theory.
Mysticism is based on the belief that we are in a place in which we are unable to feel the innate interconnectedness of all things, but that we all emanate from the same creative energetic field, and that is something we very simplistically call ‘love’.
And there is no cleaner and purer and more profoundly transformative vibration than love. But ‘love’ as we experience it on the material plane is a mere fragment of its computational and transmutational power in the non-material realm. What I have experienced in my own limited journeys to the primary realm is so beautiful and massive and ancient and futuristic… it is like a wave of creative potential that has the power to sink all of these zero-sum antiquated architectures and simultaneously float all boats to a new kind of world that we have only ever dreamed about. And it is just as real as everything we are experiencing now.
You just have to close your eyes,
and before time
before the sun and the moon and the stars
clouds and horses
daisies and butterflies
before summer and before rain
before diamonds and rockets and the Rolling Stones
before there was any thing…
there was the sound:
a single chord that emitted from a tear in the unitary unmaterialized fabric of the All
coded with a wish for the none to become one and the one to become many, this sound became a vibration and this vibration became a pulse and this pulse became a directional momentum of such desire that it exploded into the creation of everything that is and ever was:
a universe of galaxies, constellations, planets, organisms, beings and states of being
so vast and wide, that in the remotest corner of the farthest galaxy, the original sound was forgotten
